DRC Mining Week 17-19 June 2026
What became clear at DRC Mining Week last week is that the conversation is no longer about the DRC's mining potential. It's about execution.
Our Principal Legal Counsel, Ganza Karhahunga, attended the event in Lubumbashi and observed three major themes shaping the future of the sector:
⚖️ Regulation is evolving rapidly
Lithium is expected to be designated a strategic mineral, while new tariffs on mining by-products and increased enforcement of local ownership requirements are also on the horizon.
🔋 The DRC's role in the energy transition is growing
Industry leaders, including Gécamines' CEO, highlighted the importance of maximising mineral value, improving operational performance, and building resilience in an increasingly competitive market.
⚡ Energy remains the biggest challenge
For many mining and processing operations, access to reliable power continues to be the key constraint to growth. The opportunity in the DRC remains immense. However, success will increasingly depend on the ability to navigate regulatory change, strengthen operational performance, and solve infrastructure challenges. At Auremin, we see these challenges as opportunities to deliver practical, tailored solutions that help our partners operate efficiently and grow sustainably.
