Energetech-Tantel and TPDC Sign $100M MoU to Transform Tanzania’s Energy Landscape

At Energetech, we prioritize innovation, collaboration, and personal growth.

Energetech-Tantel and the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) valued at $100 million, setting a two-year roadmap to develop modular and scalable liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure across Tanzania.

This partnership marks a significant milestone in Tanzania’s journey toward becoming a regional clean energy hub. The initiative is focused on increasing access to clean, cost-effective energy for both industries and households, while also contributing to economic growth and regional leadership in the clean energy transition.

“Together, we’re building more than energy infrastructure — we’re building a more inclusive, sustainable future,” said Energetech CEO, Alistair Naiken.

Key Highlights of the Project

The $100 million investment will focus on developing renewable energy infrastructure, including solar, wind, and hybrid power generation facilities across Tanzania's most underserved regions. The partnership leverages Energetech-Tantel's expertise in renewable energy technology with TPDC's deep understanding of Tanzania's energy landscape and infrastructure.

"This collaboration represents more than just an investment in energy infrastructure," said James Mwangi, CEO of Energetech-Tantel. "It's an investment in Tanzania's future, in the prosperity of its people, and in creating a sustainable energy ecosystem that can serve as a model for the entire region."

Key Components of the Initiative

The comprehensive program will roll out in three phases over the next five years:

Phase 1: Infrastructure Development (Years 1-2)

Construction of 500MW solar power facilities and 300MW wind farms in the Dodoma and Singida regions. This phase will also establish the necessary grid infrastructure to integrate renewable energy into Tanzania's national power system.

Phase 2: Capacity Building (Years 2-4)

Training programs for 5,000 Tanzanian engineers and technicians in renewable energy technology, maintenance, and operations. This includes partnerships with local universities to establish renewable energy research centers.

Phase 3: Expansion and Innovation (Years 4-5)

Deployment of hybrid energy storage solutions and micro-grid systems to rural communities, bringing reliable electricity to an estimated 2 million people currently without access to the national grid.

“A big step forward for Tanzania and the region,” said Naiken. “We’re proud to contribute to a project that will drive job creation, reduce production costs, and fuel long-term economic growth.” — Energetech CEO, Alistair Naiken.
